Color Protection

Why Does Blonde, Gray, or White Hair Turn Yellow?

You chose blonde, silver, or platinum for its cool, luminous finish. So why does it gradually become warmer, duller, or more yellow?

It all comes down to oxidation.

Everyday exposure to UV rays, heat, pollution, and repeated washing can contribute to oxidative stress within the hair fiber. Over time, these factors can affect the appearance of blonde, gray, and white hair, allowing unwanted warm and yellow tones to become more visible.

And there's more to the story than color alone. Oxidative stress can also affect the quality of the hair fiber, leaving it more vulnerable to dryness, roughness, and loss of shine. When the fiber is compromised, maintaining a beautiful, cool-toned finish becomes even more challenging.

So how do you fight it?

The solution starts with a color theory, the same wheel your colorist uses. On the color wheel, violet sits opposite yellow. This is why violet pigments are so effective at visually neutralizing unwanted yellow and helping blonde, gray, and white hair maintain a cooler, more balanced appearance.

That's the visible fix. PHYTO went one step further and went upstream, straight to the alpine flower nicknamed the Silver Star, edelweiss. Rich in flavonoids and leontopodic acid, it works as a shield against the free radicals responsible for photo-oxidation in the first place. Not just correcting the yellow. Preventing it.

Pair the pigment correction with the protective science, and you get more than a quick fix. You also get a cool tone that holds!

Your hair isn't broken. It's just asking for the right color logic.
